I am so excited to have returning author, Mrs. Kennisha Hill with me today! Kennisha is a Christian Author, Speaker and Entrepreneur. She is the author of Simply Wisdom: Tidbits of Inspiration for your Journey, Simply Wisdom: Empowerment for Your Purpose, her debut Christian Fiction novel Awakened, and today is the release of her sophomore novel, Uncovered. She is also a freelance writer and monthly blogger for MomLife Today, Hope for Women Magazine and she is the Love & Relationships columnist for EEW Magazine.Kennisha, thank you so much for being with me today. I am so excited about your new book Uncovered and I'm even more eager to see what God has planned next for you in your writing ministry. I must say that your first novel, Awakened, was definitely a captivating love story that illustrates so many levels of God's grace and faithfulness. That novel was definitely a blessing to me personally and to so many others who could identify with the characters. Now, you are releasing your 2nd novel, Uncovered, which continues the story of Tamara. In Awakened, Tamara sought redemption out of a life of pain and compromise through success and love. After a series of unfortunate events, Tamara moved back home, met NBA Player Kameron and fell in love. Yet, as Tamara tried to let go of her past with ex-boyfriend Benjamin and move on, she was suddenly reintroduced to Nyla, the daughter she and Benjamin gave up for adoption after she was born. And with Benjamin giving her a job with the NSA, one she's always wanted, her past continues to follow her. Having never told Kameron about Nyla, she gave him a six month waiting period before agreeing to marry, hoping she would find a way out of this tangled web.
Uncovered begins with a very relevant scripture, one that I think we don't hear too often... "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins." I Peter 4:8 Tell me, what exactly does this scripture mean to you personally and without telling me too much of the storyline, how does it unfold in your novel Uncovered?
KH: I believe 1 Peter 4:8 defines real love. It's about the unfailing love of Jesus Christ. His love covers us all because he loved us enough to die for us so we can have life. Jesus is the perfect example of how we should love; covering our brothers and sisters with this Christ-like love. In Uncovered, this is exactly what Tamara needed. To feel forgiven and loved in the midst of her complications.
Let's talk a little bit about the main character, Tamara. She definitely went through some changes in your last novel Awakened. The story ends with her being faced with some major decisions in terms of her career and her love life. Tell me, how has Tamara evolved or changed in your new novel Uncovered?
KH: There was a huge transformation in Tamara's character. In Awakened she was bitter, tough and sassy. Several experiences brought her to her knees surrendering to the Lord, which was the way she found true love and redemption. In Uncovered, Tamara started life all over again, but this time with a renewed heart and mind that was set on how to be a better woman of God. She felt grateful for how he blessed her with a new chance at real love and a new career opportunity and didn't want to mess anything else up. Although she's now battling with a past that came knocking at her front door, she's constantly praying and asking God what to do about it. You see, in Awakened, she probably would have reacted very differently. But with a renewed mind and heart, she wants to do things God's way. In Uncovered, she's just trying to keep it Christ-like, even in the midst of her circumstances.
When we think about the greatest love story of all, which is demonstrated through Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins, and we reflect on the foundation scripture of Uncovered, I Peter 4:8, we find this glaring message of hope and grace. We see how relentless God is with His love for us and although we are underserving, God's pursuit of us is so persistent. Tell me a little bit about Tamara and Kameron's love relationship in regards to the relentless love I just spoke about and how you can relate to this type of love personally.
KH: Kameron is completely in love with her! He adores her, more than Tamara realizes. You see, Tamara felt so much rejection to where she didn't believe real love even existed for her. But it came unexpectedly through Kameron. Deep inside, a part of her still struggles with her past, and it doesn't help that it seemed to have followed her back to Seattle, but Kameron's love ultimately helps demonstrate what real love really is. It loves in spite of and not because of. I can definitely relate to this on a personal level. Although I didn't experience everything that Tamara did, I know where my life has been over the years. If it wasn't for God's love, I don't know where I'd be right now. Similarly, God sent my husband along to be such a light into my life. He showed me that no matter where I've been or what I've done that he still loves me. Even in my imperfections right now, he still loves me.
I know that you are currently working on novel #3! I can't tell you how excited I am about your upcoming novel. One thing I find to be consistent about your writing ministry is the prevailing message of hope. You have a gift for leaving the reader with a sense of great expectation. Without revealing too much, what can we expect in Novel #3?
KH: The third book in the Tamara Thompson Series will heavily include the topic of forgiveness. You see, "something" happens in the beginning that will instantly cause Tamara to want to fight with all of her might for revenge. Anytime you mess with family, it's normal to want to retaliate. And with her government training with NSA, who knows what she's going to do. In Awakened she found redemption in Christ, in Uncovered she accepted the meaning of true love and now in book three (tentatively entitled "Captured") she has to learn how to forgive what we would define as one of the worst sins.
As captivating as your novels are, many would agree that they could easily be produced as movies. Any plans on getting these onto the big screen? Besides being on the top of the charts, they would definitely reach a larger audience on a massive level and introduce this same hope that I, myself have discovered, along with other readers.
KH: I would love to have any or all of my novels made into movies! I keep thinking Lifetime, Lifetime, Lifetime!!! LOL. But yes, it would be awesome if God had that in the plans for me!
Now, I also want to talk a little bit about your new apparel line. I received my "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made" Tee the other day! I am so excited and proud of you girl. You just keep expanding and growing and reaching to higher levels of ministry. The T-shirts are very stylish and classy and they present a message of substance based on the Word of God! Tell me, what inspired you to begin the apparel line and are there any plans to expand this facet of your ministry?
KH: I was sitting down talking with my husband about various ways I could help promote Awakened and Uncovered. I thought "Well, why not get two t-shirts made that has a message on them from my books?" Since they are Christian-based novels and I open each with a motto scripture verse, I thought it would be a cool idea if I could somehow design a t-shirt with that message on it. But then I believe the Lord gave me the idea to make more than two. LOL. So, I prayed and asked God to tell me what to do and how and I moved on it. I really like them too! I haven't thought too hard about fashion and design ;-) but, I am having fun! I do have other ideas about different color shirts being made, so we'll see!Well, thanks so much again for being here with me today Kennisha.
